On Tuesday 4th November, we invite you to a “Library Collection” dinner and tasting with Constance and Anne Parent at Medler, where you can taste various styles of her Pommard going back to 2016 including her Grand Crus.

Upon arrival at 6.30pm you will receive a glass of fizz with a 4 course dinner from the team at Medler on the King’s Road, starting at 7pm.

– 2018, Pommard Chanlins 1er Cru, Domaine Parent

Young vines and more limestone here. 30% whole bunch and 45% new wood. Rich dense purple with some new wood showing at the moment on the nose. This starts gently though with some precision, then opens out into a more powerfully structured wine but very well balanced and a fine long clean finish. Tasted Feb 2020. 89-92/100 – Jasper Morris MW

The 2018 Pommard Les Chanlins ler Cru, from 17-year-old vines planted on limestone soils, includes 20% whole-cluster fruit with 45% new oak, the same as Les Argillières. This has a stricter, more delineated bouquet, less flattering than the Les Argillieres but showing more breeding. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. This is well structured and very intense but displays wonderful mineralité on the finish. Superb. 92-94/100 – Neal Martin MW

– 2018, Pommard Chaponnières 1er Cru, Domaine Parent

This is a classy cuvée made with old vines from 1929, which have been ploughed by horse for a long time. Anne prescribes 30% whole bunch, 45% new wood. The soil is brown clay, plenty of dolomite and some iron oxide, making a wine which is closer to Rugiens than Epenots in style. Sensual, deep and substantial with a wealth of high-class fruit. A velvet layer on top of the bone structure. Tasted Feb 2020.

The 2023 Pommard Les Chaponnieres ler Cru has a little more richness on the nose compared to the Les Chanlins, touches of brown spice infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth opening. Touches of dark chocolate emerge on the entry, turning quite seductive through the lightly spiced finish. Very promising, but it will require a little more time in bottle. 92-94/100 – Neal Martin MW

– 2019, Pommard Les Argillières 1er Cru, Domaine Parent

Grown on a fine clay soil, made with 20% whole bunch and 40% new wood. This has rather a classy nose, over and above the signature of the vintage. The clay has retained enough humidity perhaps to keep this balanced and light enough on its feet. Red cherry behind, not too much sucrosity. Tasted Oct 2019. 90-93/100 – Jasper Morris MW

This expressive effort is also trimmed in subtle but easily discernible wood on the spicy and quite floral notes of plum, menthol and red and dark cherries. The refined, energetic and delicious middle weight flavors display a lovely blend of richness and verve on the lightly austere finish where the only reproach is again a touch of warmth.

– 2019, Pommard La Croix Blanche, Domaine Parent

10% whole bunch 40% new wood. More purple than crimson with a vibrant juicy deep red fruit. Very good comforting deep cherry and ripe raspberry nose, a little acidity, quite balanced. Tasted Oct 2019. 89-92/100 – Jasper Morris MW

Here too discreet wood sets off pretty, ripe and fresh aromas of various red berries that are cut with floral and warm earth hints. There is fine volume and mid-palate density to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess a sleek, even refined mouthfeel, all wrapped in a youthfully austere finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is a fine Pommard villages. 89-91/100 – Allen Meadows

– 2019, Pommard Les Croix Noires 1er Cru, Domaine Parent

Made with 20% whole bunch and 40% new wood. Deep crimson colour, dense dark red fruit on the nose. Rich fruit especially at the back of the palate, good acidity, dark raspberry notes, some oak, middleweight plus. Tasted Oct 2019. 91-94/100 – Jasper Morris MW

Spicy aromas speak of plum, various dark berries and plenty of earth and humus nuances. This too possesses a lovely texture as the caressing medium-bodied flavors deliver fine length on the vibrant, balanced and slightly more complex finale.

– 2020, Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru, Domaine Parent

All whole bunch vinification and all in new wood! Fine mid crimson, a smoky nose, not easy to judge at the moment. Assuming the racking will clean this up it should be gorgeous because the quality of the fruit behind is first rate. The barrel might be giving some char too, as well as the whole bunches adding a smoky tone. Tasted Nov 2021.

A broad-ranging and ripe nose offers up an equal plethora of floral nuances on the slightly riper array of black raspberry liqueur, sauvage and warm earth scents. Here too the palate impressive of the big-bodied flavors is quite sleek with a really beguiling inner mouth perfume while the rich, mouth coating and muscular finish displays very fine length. There is a hint of warmth, and this too will need to develop more depth in time but if you have the patience to wait 7 to 10 years, this should be terrific. 91-94/100 – Allen Meadows

– 2020, Corton Grand Cru, Domaine Parent (Magnum)

Full mid yellow. Straight to new wood, no stirring at all. Definitely in the reductive mode with some attractive suave plum fruit behind. Anne will slightly diminish the reduction before the wine is bottled. Long, nicely textured, suave but not soft, white fruit to finish with a little salinity. Tasted Nov 2021. 93- 95/100 – Jasper Morris MW

– 2021, Pommard Les Epenots 1er Cru, Domaine Parent

The 2021 Pommard Les Epenots 1er Cru was a blend of Petit and Grand Epenots from the beginning of fermentation instead of separate vinifications. Matured in 40% new oak, it has a very precise bouquet with mineral-infused red berry fruit, vibrant and brimming with energy. The palate is very elegant though there is little more substance and structure than Parent’s other Pommards. The wine is granular in texture with a touch of iodine on the finish.
