Jerome Galeyrand was introduced to us over 7 years ago by Olivier Lamy – Part of a new-wave group of friends who taste regularly and strive to create some of the best wines of the region. Jerome Galeyrand, Thomas Bouley and Olivier Lamy have set their stool out as some of the most exciting growers producing some of the best wines in Burgundy today. Jerome’s humble beginnings as an assistant in Gevrey-Chambertin saw the creation of his own domaine 25 years ago.
He has single-handedly altered the path of Aligoté wines, with his 2023 Aligotés scoring 91 and 92 points on Vinous. He has created some of the most exciting cuvées of Gevrey-Chambertin and his Cotes de Nuits Les Retraits (2023 score 90 pts, Vinous) is now one of the most sought after wines in Burgundy. The highlights of his exceptional range are undoubtedly his four famous reds: “La Justice”, “en Billard”, “en Croisette” and “Les Retraits”, which renowned Burgundy critics like William Kelley and Jasper Morris MW consider to be in a class of their own… Along with Jean-Yves Bizot, Jerome Galeyrand has changed the fortunes of Marsannay.
His 2023 Marsanny Clos du Roy is the top scoring wine on Vinous with 93 points for Jerome’s 2023. Jerome’s viticulture is largely organic for 70% of his vineyards and sustainable for the remaining 30% of vines. No pesticides are used, and all vineyard rows are ploughed. Some wines include whole-clusters, and the vinification is carried out as delicately as possible with limited use of SO2, which helps contribute to his wines’ refinement and purity.
Come along to the Light On The Common Café (48 High Street, Wimbledon Village, London SW19 5AX) on Monday 24th March 2025 from 6 – 9pm and taste Jerome’s exemplary wines with plenty of food laid on by the Light Café at £95pp. It’s a nice relaxed evening of great wine and food. Meet Jerome and his daughter Orane, as they guide us through his superb 2023’s. The actual tastings will begin at 6.30pm prompt, and they will guide you through each individual wine, with Andrew Pavli and Greg Sherwood, MW on hand.
At time of writing, only Neal Martin on Vinous has reviewed Jerome’s 2023’s. Here’s a snapshot:
> Marsanny Clos du Roy, 93 pts “Blossoms in the glass” “What a beautiful Marsannay this is”
> Aligoté Bouzeron Les Clous, 92 pts “The palate is irresistible” “This comes highly recommended” “Buzeron at it’s best”
