This is a serious sleeping beast – deep, dark, and broody with plum and black berry fruits, earthy black currants, wood smoke, sapidity and a limestone minerality. Generous and fleshy in the mouth, the tart crunchy acids keep the wine strict and linear, tight, and focused with creamy fine-grained tannins, and a natural classical restraint. An exuberantly spicy nose also features attractive spice and floral nuances on the cool aromas that derive mostly from the red side of the fruit spectrum. There is excellent delineation and an almost aggressive minerality to the equally dense flavors that terminate in a compact, serious and built-to-age finale.
