This Grand Cru shows a seductive blue and black fruited aromatics with saline cassis, smoky graphite, oyster shell, and a maritime nori seaweed complexity. Beautifully supple, creamy and weightlessly concentrated, the texture is silky soft and accessible with an incredible focus, intensity and accompanying liquid minerality. A rich deep purple. Evident power to the fruit on the nose, Clos St-Denis always keen to push its head above the parapet more than Clos de la Roche. A brighter more vivid ripe raspberry fruit, adequately structured but with the fruit leading. I think Clos de la Roche wins at the finish but until then Clos St-Denis catches the eye.
