Tasting Notes

Wine Advocate 82

Tasted at Louis Jadot’s 150th anniversary tasting. The Bonnes Mares has a deep ruby core with roof tile rim. It has a quintessential Bonnes Mares bouquet; rounded and voluptuous, plush raspberry, kirsch, ripe Satsuma and just a hint of alcohol indicative of the hot growing season. The palate is full-bodied with a spicy entry, firm and slightly coarse tannins with a high-toned, rather ostentatious core with an off-putting charred not poking out on the finish that is still showing some hardness. On this showing, I feel this is a Burgundy beaten by the growing season. Drink now-2013. Tasted November 2009. [Neal Martin, 01/11/2009]

Wine from a scorching vintage, but with a freshness that belies the weather. It has very fragrant aromas of raspberry and kirsch, and the bouquet somehow suggests it’s a wine of structure and depth as well as perfume. The palate is gorgeous; young and bright, and very dominated by raspberry fruit. Tannins are silky. It’s perfumed, lively and youthful, with a hint of grapefruit. Lovely, balanced young wine, with firm but silky tannins and good acidity. (CM) [16/12/2009]
