These are qualities that also show up clearly in Domaine Arlaud’s wines, transmitted via the alchemy of Cyprien’s wine making.

From ending the use of herbicides in 1998, to conversion to organic cultivation from 2004, on to fully embracing bio-dynamic principles from 2009, Arlaud’s vines today enjoy some of the most bio-diverse, living soils found in Burgundy.

As a young lad, Cyprien Arlaud used to see Aubert de Villaine cycle to his vineyards every single day, and was full of admiration at the great man’s humble work ethic. “One day, I will do the same,” thought the young Cyprien, as he grew up adoring DRC’s wines.

At a recent lunch with Aubert de Villaine, Aubert told a friend of ours, “one of the people I respect most in Burgundy is Cyprien Arlaud. He has worked tirelessly in his vineyards and up lifted all of the Côte de Nuits.”

Cyprien is one of a small number of wine makers who, alongside Jean-Yves Bizot, have recognised Morey-St-Denis’ as yet un-realised potential to join the elite villages of the Côte de Nuits.
