The wines are now lusher, more refined and more elegant than ever…
This magical and timeless domaine has always been close to the hearts of Burgundy enthusiasts. With its incredible selection of enviable parcels, it continues to create true works of art in every vintage. The wines are produced from superbly sited, predominantly 100 year old vines that delight the senses with every glass.
Simply walking through these exceptional parcels is mesmerising, particularly the beautifully maintained vineyards in Vosne Romanée, such as Les Beaux Monts and Les Rouges. One then moves on to pure indulgence with Echézeaux and the domaine’s outstanding holdings in Grands Echézeaux, located directly next to DRC.
The Desaunay Bissey family has always remained somewhat under the radar, as they often remind me: “Andrew, we don’t make wines for investors or critics. We make wines that are affordable, allowing people to enjoy the very best of our great terroirs year after year.” And it is true, the domaine’s prices remain remarkably fair for the majestic Pinot Noir produced here.
Following the passing of Bruno Desaunay in 2022, his son Richard has continued the family tradition, farming the land with the same care and attention that would have made his father proud. While the team remains unchanged, the style of the domaine has evolved. Richard, together with Aline, the domaine’s highly capable winemaker and vineyard expert, has truly made his mark.
The wines are now lusher, more refined and more elegant than ever. He has crafted a flamboyant yet precise range of Pinot Noir, paying homage to the incredible terroir of the domaine. The style is a seamless marriage of classical winemaking and modern elegance. These wines embody the very essence of Burgundy, with fragrant aromatics, sweet cherry notes on the palate, and a beautifully persistent finish that elevates the tasting experience to another level of pure indulgence.
This domaine holds a special place in the hearts of knowledgeable buyers. The people here are content with working hard in the vineyards and embracing the rich tapestry of life in Burgundy, enjoying the simple pleasures that come with it, often accompanied by a beautiful bottle from the domaine at the dinner table. They are truly blessed.
