Sparkling Magic, Petit & Bajan
06/01/25
It ‘s the time of year that Greg Sherwood MW and I travel to Burgundy to taste 2023’s. It’s always a pleasure to stop off en route at our friends. Petit and Bajan…
Champagne Petit & Bajan is the chiselled jewel of Richard and Véronique Petit. Together, they cultivate two of the greatest terroirs of Champagne: Avize and Verzenay, classified Grand Cru vineyards. After many tastings and deep reflection, at the end of 2008, the high potential of their own terroirs was turned into the reality that is now the Petit & Bajan brand.
The richness of their heritage has shaped the entire range’s development. Every little detail counts … and that is how Richard and Véronique manage to access the pure, precise, and stylish quality that is to be found in the Champagnes of Petit & Bajan.
It was Greg’s first visit, so I was intrigued to hear is comments on one of my favourite Champagne houses. I was introduced to the family around ten years ago, by a friend. As a member of the Champagne Academy, in fact one of the youngest ever members, champagne has always had a special place in my heart, I just love fine fizz.
Richard and Veronique, were away, so Brice, their son hosted a wonderful tasting for us. Brice is freshly back from travelling in Australia and getting used to ‘life as normal ‘ again. From the sunny skies of Perth. Back to a grey cold day in Avize. All good things come to an end I suppose, but at least there is plenty of wonderful champagne to enjoy with friends after a day in the vineyards.
Now, back to the tasting…The Nymphea for me is a real favourite as I adore rose champagne….it’s just such a fine bubble and so elegant. These really are what fizz is all about…just delicious to drink especially after we have left the wine in our bond for over a year just to relax, thus lovely to enjoy now.
